The government is going to create provident fund for the RMG workers, said Mujibul Haque (Chunnu), State Minister for Labour and Manpower on Saturday.The fund will be created under Workers Welfare Foundation, said the Minister while addressing a discussion on ‘House made Security and Current Status’ at East West Media conference hall in the city.The roundtable meeting was jointly organised by Action for Social Development and Bengali daily Kaler Kantho.Under this programme, each worker will deposit Tk 200 each month at the post office and the government will deposit another Tk 200 for every worker, the Minister said.The tenure of the provident fund will be 20 years he said and added that 1 lakh RMG workers will get the facility.As per the labour law, the owners will have to deposit .03 per cent of their profit to the fund under the Ministry of Labour, he added.Already, Tk 17 crore has been deposited in the fund with the assistance of the garment factory stakeholders, the Minister also informed.The family member of every worker of the garment industry will get Tk 3 lakh after their death by any accident, the Minister declared.Imdadul Haque Milon, editor of Kaler Kantho was the moderator of the meeting.
