A Gazipur court on Wednesday granted bail to the owner of Tampco Foils Limited in two cases filed after deadly fire at the packaging factory that left at least 39 people dead and more than 30 others injured at Tongi in Gazipur. Judge of the Gazipur District and Sessions Judges court AKM Enamul Haque granted the factory chairman, Syed Mokbul Hossain, bail until January 4 because of his health condition, said public prosecutor Haris Uddin Ahmed. The court sent five other Tampaco officials — managing director Syed Tanvir Ahmed, also Mokbul’s son, its deputy managing director Shofi Sami alias Alamgir Hossain, also the chairman’s son-in-law, general manager Shafiqur Rahman, manager (admin) Monir Hossain, and manager (security) Abul Hanif — to jail after all the six accused surrendered before the court according to a High Court order. A High Court bench on November 23 granted bail to Mokbul’s wife and daughter for eight weeks but asked all other accused to surrender to the lower court within seven days as they sought bail. Father of a deceased worker of the factory, and a sub-inspector of Tongi police station filed the cases on September 12 and 17 respectively.
