Despite international conspiracy against the country’s Ready Made Garments (RMG) industries the sector maintains a steady growth and has emerged as the largest apparel exporter in South and South-East Asia. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu made the observation on Wednesday while inaugurating the 18th Textech Bangladesh International Expo, 12th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show and the 28th Dye +Chem Bangladesh Expo 2017 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital. CEMS-Global (Conference & Exhibition Management Services Ltd), a multinational exhibition organiser, organised the event which will continue till August 12. The show will remain open for trade and public visitors from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm. Around 1150 companies with 1400 booths from 25 countries across the world take part in the exhibition. It is a one-stop single platform to showcase the latest developments and emerging technology for the textile and garment industry. The exhibition is the biggest networking place in Bangladesh for buyers and manufacturers and suppliers of equipment and technology of international yarn and fabric industry. It will also provide an interactive platform for exhibitors to generate business through displays and direct interaction and will enhance the synergy effect and attract top level professionals from related industries. Industries Minister pointed out that the country had made significant improvements in various fields including upgrading the garment industry, ensuring workers safety, fixing minimum wages, inspection of industrial factories and strengthening of surveillance and monitoring system. Quoting the latest report of the US Green Building Council, the minister said that out of 10 eco-friendly factories of the world, 7 factories are located in Bangladesh. “It is a testimony of our sincere efforts and initiative toward making the RMG sector a safe, sound, green, environment friendly and vibrant one.” The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), said extensive campaign is going on around the world against the country’s image, labour standard and safety although ILO, European Union, America and others admitted that Bangladesh has done a lot and significantly improved in safety area especially in building safety, structural integrity, electrical safety and fire safety. Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association Vice-President Mansoor Ahmed said “It is very much true that invention of new technology and maintaining knowledge is an important part of the growth. I hope this exhibition will help make a direct bridge between latest technology of dye, chemical, yarn and fabric.” Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Md Siddiqur was also present at the programme. To further celebrate the 18th anniversary of Textech and consolidating their focus on this sector, CEMS-Global and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have also come up with yet another important seminar titled ‘Chemical Safety and Management: Bangladesh Perspective’. The seminar will be held concurrently with TEXTECH on August 10 from 11:00am to 12:30pm at the seminar hall of ICCB. CEMS Global is also organizing a forum with Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation on MICE Tourism titled “Opportunities of MICE Tourism in Bangladesh”. The Forum will be held on August 10 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
