RMG factories owners were asked to pay workers Eid bonus by August 24 and others payments including wages for the month of August before the Eid vacation begins. The decision was taken at the 35th meeting of crisis management core committee at the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Wednesday with State Minister for Labour and Employment Md.Mujibul Haque Chunnu in the chair.The meeting sources also confirmed that Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the apex body of garment manufacturers, has already taken decision to pay their workers Eid bonus by August 24.Presiding over the meeting, the state minister urged the factory owners to pay workers’ festival bonus and other arrears before the Eid-Ul-Azha, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, which will be celebrated across the country on September 2. He also urged them to grant Eid leave in phases to avoid any traffic jam on highways.The minister suggested the garment owners to discuss the issues with their workers if anyone has financial problems to pay salary and areas. At the same time the minister also urged the garment workers not to make any unrest centering salary for the month of August.Labour and Employment Ministry Additional Secretary (acting secretary) Miah Abdullah Mamun and Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Inspector General (Additional Secretary) Md. Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan, labour Director Abu Hena Mstafa kamal, Joint Secretary Khondaker Mostan Hossain, Industrial Police Director General Md. Nowsher Ali, BGMEA representative and labour leaders were presents at the meeting.
