A four-day exposition on yarn, fabric, denim, dyes and chemicals will begin later this month aiming to give an impetus to the economy. The expo, scheduled for January 31, will be held in the city’s International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) and is expected to create greater interaction among the local and global stakeholders. Conference and Exhibitions Management Services (CEMS) Global made the announcement at a press conference, held at the National Press Club on Monday. CEMS Global in association with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT TEX) is organising the trade show titled ’13th Dhaka International Yarn and Fabric Show (DIFS)-2018 – Winter Edition’. Two other concurrent exhibitions titled ‘2nd Dhaka Denim Show 2018 Winter Edition International Expo’ and ’30th Dye+Chem Bangladesh 2018-Winter Edition’ will also take place at one place. President and Group managing director of CEMS Global, USA and Asia Pacific Meherun N Islam and Noyem Sharif, head of marketing and communications at CEMS Bangladesh attended the press conference, among others. Ms Islam said that the readymade garment (RMG) industry is the key driving force of the country’s economy with over 80 per cent contribution to export income. Bangladesh is now the second-largest apparel exporter, after China, she said adding that the country has the potential to overtake China for various reasons including reasonable production cost. “Chinese entrepreneurs are looking for joint venture scopes in other countries including Bangladesh as production cost is getting higher there,” she said. Events like DIFS-2018 may help Bangladeshi entrepreneurs explore business scopes, she added. A total of 350 organisations from 21 countries including Bangladesh, China, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, India, Taiwan and Vietnam will participate in the trade shows. They will showcase various types of products and services including yarn, denim, knitted fabrics, fleece, artificial leather, button and zipper. The trade shows will remain open from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm for the visitors upon pre-registration at www.e-registrations.com, organisers said. They said that the co-organiser of the fair CCPIT TEX has been playing a significant role in promoting business cooperation between the Chinese and global textiles industry.
