Demanding arrears and other benefits, workers of a garment factory in Narayanganj blocked Shimrai-Adamjee-Narayanganj road for around two hours yesterday.Several hundred workers of “Swad Fashion” blocked the road in front of the main entrance of Adamjee Export Processing Zone around 9:00am, creating tailbacks on both sides.They cleared the road upon police assurance that their demands would be met.The workers said when they came to work, they found the factory closed and started the agitation.Around 2,000 workers work at the factory in Shiddhirganj. The owners decided to close the factory without paying their due wages of two months or any prior notice, they added.No factory official was available for comment.Inspector Nazrul Islam of Shiddhirganj Police Station said owners assured that the workers would be paid their dues by October 22.Traffic movement became normal around 11:00am.
