The Supreme Court today extended the tenure of Accord, a European agency for factory inspection and remediation, till January 21. The apex court also fixed the date for further hearing on a leave-to-appeal petition filed by the agency, Accord on Building and Fire Safety in Bangladesh. A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after Accord’s lawyer advocate AM Amin Uddin sought adjournment. The appeal was filed challenging a High Court directive that asked Accord to stop its activities and operations in Bangladesh after November 30. The apex court on December 10 had fixed yesterday for further hearing on the issue and extended the tenure of Accord till the yesterday. Earlier on December 6, the SC had extended the tenure of Accord and also fixed December 10 for further hearing of the same appeal. The Accord conducts inspection and remediation activities for more than 200 global clothing retailers and brands.
