Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi on Wednesday said jute made bi-odegradable poly bag ‘Sonali Bag’ will represent Bangladesh in global market.He said the government will start the production of environment-friendly ‘Sonali bag’ commercially. This will help reduce use of polythene.The minister made the comment after a courtesy meeting with the inventor of ‘Sonali Bag’ Dr Mubarak Ahmad Khan, also the scientific adviser of BJMC, according to a press release sent by the ministry on Wednesday. The government has taken different initiatives to increase jute production and introduce jute diversification to make it popular across the world.“They have taken initiative to produce charcoal, viscose, tea from jute leaf and other products and marketing,” he added.‘Sonali bag’ is a bio-degradable and environment-friendly jute-made poly bag. It can use repeatedly. The price will be very low considering the cost of production. The ‘Sonali bag’ is being produced manually at Latif Bawani Jute Mills in Demra at a small scale. But the commercial production of it is not start as no machinery have been setup yet.
