Workers of a factory staged demonstration demanding salary hike and other facilities as per government rules in Shreepur upazila of Gazipur district on Saturday.The workers of Siraj Cycle Industries, most of them are children and teenagers, observed work abstention and and staged demonstration in Mulaid area to press home their demand.Later, police went to the spot and calmed down them after assuring of meeting their demand. The workers alleged that there no labour law id being followed here. Child and teenage labourers are employed here in exchange of lower salary. They have to work for 12 hours a day without any overtime allowance. The factory has not hiked salary of any worker despite the government, in different times, raised salary of labourers. Now, the factory gives a worker Tk 300-500 per month, they added. Regarding recruiting child labourer, the factory official Yusuf Hasan said, “We appoint workers through scrutinizing documents. Child labourers might have been appointed ascertaining their ages though birth certificate. Shreepur Police Station sub-inspector Abdul Malek said the workers were staging demonstration since this morning inside the factory. They joined their duties after the owner assured them of meeting their demand.
