The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) today promised to pay garment workers’ festival allowance and salary ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha as they called on President Md Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon. “Workers got their salary and festival bonus properly ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. I hope all garment workers will get their salary and festival bonus before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha,” BGMEA president Dr Rubana Huq told the meeting with President Hamid. After the meeting, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed the reporters. Congratulating the newly-elected leaders of the BGMEA, garment sector’s apex trade body, President Hamid urged the BGMEA leaders to take necessary initiatives for creating entrepreneurs from young generation. “Young generation is very meritorious .Take pragmatic steps to create entrepreneurs from young generation,” the press secretary quoted the President as saying. He asked the BMGEA representatives to generate new investments for the betterment of the country and its people. Lauding the contribution of the Readymade Garments (RMG) sector of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid said Bangladeshi products have already earned reputation worldwide and its products are being displayed and sold in the global markets. “Its commercial potentials are enhancing gradually,” the President observed. He also suggested the BGMEA leaders for ensuring the production of quality and diversified products and also maintaining good relations between the factory-owners and workers to increase production. BGMEA president Dr Rubana Huq, the first female president of the BGMEA, led the 37-member delegation. Secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban were also present there.
