The apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has welcomed the new board of directors of the Chittagong region, which followed the recent election of the trade body being held simultaneously in Chittagong and capital Dhaka. According to media reports, in a programme held on 15 April (Thursday) to bid farewell to the outgoing office bearers at the association’s Chittagong-based regional office in Khulshi, the outgoing first Vice-President and Vice-President, Mohammad Abdus Salam and AM Chowdhury Selim welcomed the new first Vice-President of the BGMEA Board of Directors, Syed Nazrul Islam and Vice-President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury. Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Abdus Salam expressed hope that the new board will make the BGMEA’s activities more dynamic and take it forward with the combination of the experience of the old and the new even as Syed Nazrul Islam (newly elected first Vice-President) on his part, reportedly, maintained that the stability in the garment industry in the port city of Chittagong was due to the work and efficient leadership of the past boards while going on to assure the present board under the leadership of BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, will continue its efforts to address the current crisis in the garment industry and take necessary steps to improve the image of the sector in the global arena.
