In a welcome move, US retail giant Gap Inc. and Gap Foundation has widened its support to India in the latter’s COVID-19 recovery efforts. The leading retailer has informed that it is assisting in the growing international response to support the COVID-19 recovery efforts and measures in India. Simultaneously, Gap Foundation is separately making grants to CARE and Airlink to support the recovery efforts. Gap Inc.’s Vaccine Task Force is highly focused on expanding vaccination access and is working to establish a support platform so as to help individuals get appointments as available and is also reimbursing employees on associated costs. Gap Inc.’s HR partners in India have set up tools and resources so that its employees can get assistance and support if they test positive for COVID-19. The company is also providing additional sick leave to all affected employees and checking with managers to ensure employees receive the necessary support. Employees at Gap, Inc. have the option to individually help India’s relief efforts by making a tax-deductible contribution to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund via the United Nations. With nearly 1,000 Gap Inc. employees in India and longstanding partnership with hundreds of local apparel manufacturers and community groups, the retailer is one of the major sourcing partners of India.
