Apparel imports of USA in July ’21 have grown 17.60 per cent on Y-o-Y basis to US $ 7 billion as consumer market is regaining positive sentiments.
However, the value-wise imports are still down by 10.25 per cent as compared to July ’19, as shown by OTEXA data.
As far as volumes are concerned, USA grew by 15 per cent in July ’21 as against July ’20 to import 2,506.28 million SME of garments. When compared with pre-COVID month July ’19, the volume-wise imports declined by 9.54 per cent in July ’21.
The fall was majorly noted due to reduction in Vietnam’s shipment as the South East Asian country saw a resurgence of COVID-19 cases that impacted its July export.
Vietnam couldn’t even reach the shipment values that it clocked in COVID-19-impacted month July ’20, and fell by 1.30 per cent to US $ 1.26 billion.
Cambodia has also remained negative and it has continuously been on downward trajectory for last couple of months. The country failed to touch July ’20 export values and clocked US $ 236 million from its apparel exports to USA in July ’21, declining by 18 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Apart from Vietnam and Cambodia, all other major Asian apparel manufacturing destinations – China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Indonesia – have grown in their respective apparel shipments to USA during July ’21.
