Following the release of a co-branded upcycled denim collection, Levi’s and New Balance are re-collaborating for a limited-edition 990v3 sneaker.
The New Balance 990 series, similar to the Levi’s 501, is a definitive silhouette for the sneaker brand, gaining recognition with the iconic smooth lines and the grey palette.
The 990v3 debuted in 2012 for the brand’s 30th anniversary, remaining as one of the most popular versions from the 990 series, to this day.
The Levi’s x New Balance 990v3 sneaker boosts an indigo and grey colourway palette, representing both brands, and features hairy suede – inspired by the fuzzy back of the Levi’s leather back patch.
The shoes have been created using Levi’s proprietary Shrink-To-Fit denim, featuring a colour-coordinated Levi’s tab attached to a co-branded New Balance logo.
With the retailing price of US $ 220, the sneakers will be available on the Levi’s mobile app and New Balance’s website: nb.com, 9 September 2021 onwards.
Recently, denim sneakers have become a staple component of casual fashion, with brands from all over the fashion spectrum – luxury, streetwear, heritage – incorporating their signature elements into endless collaborations.
In 2019, the trend inspired popular styles from names like Virgil Abloh, Nike and Converse, and collaborations from Kith, Coca-Cola and 3×1, amongst others.
The collaboration between Levi’s and New Balance is part of the brands’ three-piece collection from August, which featured a pair of co-branded 992 sneakers, a Trucker jacket and a pair of jeans, all made using upcycled genuine vintage Levi’s denim.
The brands also launched the Levi’s x New Balance 1300 sneakers in 2020, featuring limited-edition White Oak XX52 denim from Levi’s deadstock denim inventory from the now-closed White Oak Mills, located in Greensboro, North Carolina.
