Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, AHM Shafiquzzaman, said that they are thinking about the system of giving ration to the workers after talking to the owners of the garment factories.
He said these things while talking to the media on Saturday
The labor secretary said, the issue of ration is a long-term process. However, for the time being, an initiative has been taken to provide products at an affordable price to the workers through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
He also said that the labor intensive areas of the country such as Savar, Ashulia, Gazipur, Tongi and Narayanganj are working on how to increase the supply of goods by trucks at a fair price beyond the TCB card. In the meantime, we have discussed to the Commerce Ministry and I have sent a DO to the Commerce Secretary.
AHM Shafiiquzzaman said, we are trying to sell TCB products at affordable prices through Truck-sale in those areas, so that the workers benefitted. Meanwhile, the Labor Secretary also talked about providing low-cost and easy health care to the workers.
He said that the cost of treatment in government hospitals is already low. However, separate desks can be set up in government hospitals in labor-intensive areas, on the other hand, low-cost medical facilities can be arranged for workers through Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with private hospitals or clinics in those areas.
