The Bangladesh Garment Workers Unity Council (BGWUC) on Saturday demanded that the readymade garment (RMG) factory owners pay their workers’ wages and festival bonus before Ramadan 20 (May 6).They made the demand at a human chain programme held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital, reports UNB.Leaders of the BGWUC, an apex body of different registered garment workers’ federations, also urged the Prime Minister to take necessary steps so that the RMG workers can get their wages and the bonus 10 days before Eid.The protesters said it seems the RMG factory owners remain under so much stress during Ramadan that they hardly get time to pay their workers’ wages and bonus.”Workers can do their shopping smoothly and return home ahead of Eid with joy if they’re paid their wages and bonus before the 20th Ramadan,” said BGWUC President Mahatab Uddin Shahid.Otherwise, he warned, the RMG workers will encircle the factory owners’ houses, if it is necessary.Bangladesh Garments Workers Federation President Towhidur Rahman, Bangladesh Revolutionary Garments Workers Federation President Salauddin Swapan, National Workers Federation President Amirul Haq Amin attended the programme, among others, and spoke.
