Expressing concerns a rights organisation has alleged that the government approved on principle the draft amendment to the labour law without taking the workers’ rights into consideration properly.SramikNirapotta Forum (SNF) in a statement said the draft also did not accommodate the demands of different rights groups. The SNF urged the government to place the draft again before the cabinet after consultations with all workers’ representatives.Theorganisation raised concerns over some issues that included fixation of compensation in case of workplace accidents and injury, workers’ rights to form trade unions, maternity benefits, insurance, workplace violence and harassment against women and case settlement.”Workers’ rights and interest have been ignored in the draft amendment to the labour law,” it added. The amendment has reduced the workers’ representation requirement for trade union registration to 20 per cent from the existing 30 per cent.
