H&M, the Swedish fast fashion giant, is unveiling a swimwear collection that is made from 85 per cent recycled polyester. The retailer, in a statement released to media, stated that the collection is their most sustainable swimwear range to date. The collection comprises the best of classic bandeaus, curved briefs and off-the-shoulder silhouettes. What’s notable is the fabrics used are made from a perfect blend of pre-consumer recycled polyester from textile waste and post-consumer waste from recycled bottles. So, come June 2021 and H&M lovers can avail the aforementioned collection not only in stores, but also online. Expressing pride and happiness at the fabrics used, Maria Östblom, Head of Design, H&M, said that this was the most sustainable swimwear collection produced by H&M so far. She added that all designs were made of at least 85 per cent recycled polyester. However, the Swedish fashion retailer did not divulge any details of factory origin where the products are manufactured. With more than 5,000 stores across 70+ countries, H&M generated US $ 24.8 billion in 2019. In 2020, the retailer had announced that it aims to be climate positive by 2040.
