The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) has urged the textile industry to action to better control microfibers in wastewater during manufacturing. In a recently released statement, TMC urged the textile industry stakeholders to take part and support the globally practiced manufacturing guidelines.
TMC’s call go before the publication of ‘Control of Microfibres in Wastewater’ – which is regarded as the newest tool for textile manufacturers to use on fiber disintegration from natural and synthetic textiles.
The Microfibre Consortium also identified that the textile industry is accountable for fiber fragmentation from textiles at both the manufacturing procedure and the consumer level.
Control of Microfibres in Wastewater will be the up-to-date involvement of TMC and its associates, who are following a portfolio method to address the issue the fiber fragmentation. And the execution of Control of Microfibres in Wastewater will impact at the root cause level and prevent loss from happening.
Dr. Kelly Sheridan, Head of Research at The Microfibre Consortium said, “Huge strides to develop the guidelines had already been made by the manufacturing task team when I joined TMC from academia. Getting involved part way through the work has allowed me to look at it with fresh eyes, which has allowed me to combine my experience of writing and reviewing scientific publications with my forensic science background.”
“This will ensure that the manufacturing guidelines are not only valid scientifically, but are also simply communicated from top to bottom, through policymakers to manufacturers, to provide an aligned action plan,” Sheridan added.
TMC is optimistic that the wider global textile industry will adopt the initial guidelines. Which will achieve the utmost impact appropriately.
