Freudenberg, a multinational technology company committed to technical excellence, has introduced the first product line in the apparel sector that uses a biodegradable adhesive in cotton interlinings.

This innovative and brand-new product line’s glue, which enables the interlinings to be biodegradable, is also a significant advancement for the apparel sector and environmental sustainability in general.

According to the company, growing concerns about the sustainability in the apparel industry have led to major shifts in the cultivation, manufacturing, and end-of-life management of textiles and apparel.

The interlining product line, therefore, has great biodegradability and doesn’t affect either plants or animals. These fusible interlinings, which were approved by the esteemed Hohenstein Laboratories, are expected to degrade by 90% in 15 to 20 months, according to the results of tests conducted in the lab from June 2021 to June 2022.

Despite the fact that Hohenstein had no adverse effects on the germination of garden cress or in the acute toxicity test with earthworms. These findings imply that the novel biodegradable fusible cotton shirt interlinings can decompose after usage without harming plants or animals, which is a significant improvement for the sustainability of the environment and the efficient use of land.

Beyond being biodegradable and non-toxic, these novel interlinings also conserve energy because they can be fused at 127°C as opposed to the usual 143°C.

These STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified interlinings fuse at a lower temperature yet maintain washability at up to 40°C, also dry cleaner safe, and can be used for a variety of garment sections, including collars, cuffs, and plackets for men’s shirts and women’s blouses.

All these benefits are found in a product entirely and exclusively produced in Freudenberg facilities, further ensuring quality and better lead time targets.

Besides that, with a lower fusing temperature, garments can be made with lower energy expenditure while still offering the excellent quality and reliability that the industry expects from Freudenberg.

The corporation began integrating sustainability into its business processes more than 170 years ago.

Freudenberg said, “In this decade, Freudenberg’s Apparel Division is taking even greater steps to minimize its environmental impact and support customers in achieving their own sustainability goals.”

A division of Freudenberg, Freudenberg Performance Materials (Freudenberg) is a market leader in the supply of cutting-edge technical materials and has extensive experience in creating eco-friendly textiles.

The Freudenberg Apparel House of Sustainability consists of more than 500 environmentally friendly products spanning seven different pillars, including recycled general interlinings, recyclable materials, energy-saving materials, biodegradable materials, sustainable cotton, and nature-based and recycled thermal insulation and linings, the result of these efforts. These pillars are based on excellence, visibility, and transparency, the mentioned.
