Member of the European Parliament Dr Sajjad Karim on Saturday assured that European Union (EU) would work and cooperate with Bangladesh for its economic development, reports BSS. “EU would continue friendship with Bangladesh to ensure its economic development,” he said at a view exchange meeting at BGMEA office in the city. “I sincerely hope Bangladesh would do it as early as possible,” said Karim, also the chairman of EU South Asia Trade Monitoring Group. Karim is visiting Bangladesh and he termed his visit fruitful. “We are proud of many achievements in readymade garments (RMG) sector that inspired us to work with Bangladesh,” he added. The EU Parliament Member said he became happy to see the safety progress in the RMG sector following the tragic Rana Plaza accident. Criticizing the killing of blogger Niloy Neel, Sajjad karim said “It’s absolutely essential for Bangladeshi Government to respond to the perpetrator quickly”. During his stay in Bangladesh, Karim also attended BGMEA Expo held in Chittagong. EU Ambassador and Head of Delegation Pierre Mayaudon termed the BGMEA Expo as fantastic and effective event for the RMG sector of the country, and also congratulated BGMEA for organizing the event. He said only Bangladesh has shown full dynamism in RMG sector among the least developed countries getting duty free access to EU market. BGMEA President Atiqul Islam made introductory remarks in the view exchange meeting, where the members of BGMEA executive body were present.
