Finance Minister AMA Muhith said on Tuesday China has shown a keen interest in investing US$ 300 million in the textile industry sector of Bangladesh. They also showed the eagerness to invest in railway, jute and bridge, he told reporters after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China at the ministry. Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng signed the deal over Bangladesh China Friendship Exhibition Centre project on behalf of his country. Minister Muhith said China proposed to build an industrial park in Bangladesh involving employment for 2000 people, “but we have not agreed so far.” Citing the 170-km Bangladesh-India-Myanmar-China highway, he said Bangladesh will construct 23 kilometres, which has already been cleared by the cabinet. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited China on June 6 this year and ever since China has accepted all the projects Bangladesh proposed to them, added the minister. Senior officials from the finance ministry, economic relations division and Chinese commerce ministry and embassy were also present.
