Barisal will emerge as a big economic zone of the country in a decade, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said on Saturday. “In a decade, Barisal region will be turned into one of the largest economic zones of the country. The government has started the works or the development of Barisal region, including that of the Payra seaport, keeping up with that goal,” he said. The minister said this while addressing the triennial council of the district unit of ruling Awami League (AL) at the Old Stadium if the district town. He observed that the overall development of the country continues to take place when AL is in power, and that the governments in the past did not took up development activities for the people as they served their own interests. In the council, a 77-member district AL committee, including Shah Alam as president and Khan Syfullah as general secretary, was announced making.
