State Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki has said that female garment workers are facing multiple challenges at their workplaces. She made this comment as Chief Guest at the inauguration of a project on Inclusive Business Model programme for garment workers under a project titled ‘SNV Netherlands Development Organisation Working with Women,’ organised by Foundation of the Netherlands Volunteer at a city hotel on Tuesday. Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands will fund the project. ‘Female garment workers are facing many challenges at their work places, still they are contributing a lot in the RMG sector,’ she noted. Referring to the exiting environment of the garments factories, she said that most of the garments factories are not women- friendly; therefore female workers face so much trouble.Giving importance to sexual and reproductive health, State Minister Meher Afroz Chumki suggested that female workers should have education on this particular subject. “We came to know that a large number of female garment workers face multiple problems including reproductive health which is being ignored very often,’ she said. She also ensured support and cooperation from Bangladesh government to make the project a success. Netherland government’s SNV project has taken inclusive business initiatives for the first time in Bangladesh.
