The country’s export to key European destinations like Germany, the UK and France posted moderate performance in the July-August period of the current fiscal year (2015-16), compared to the same period of the previous fiscal. In the period, exports to Germany, the 2nd largest destination of Bangladeshi exportable items, totaled $ 805.90 million, which was 14.97 percent of the total export earnings for the period, reports UNB. Of the amount, knitwear accounted for $439.43 million, woven garment $313.42 million and frozen shrimp $ 10.76 million, according to latest figures released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). The EPB figures showed that exports to the UK in July-August totaled $586.45 million, which was 10.89 percent of the total export earnings for the two-month period. The export of woven garment to the UK during the two months was of $252.42 million, knitwear 290.20 million, home textile export to the UK during the period was $12.64 million, frozen shrimps $ 7.48 million and bicycles $ 9.02 million. Exports to France during the July-August period increased to $250.84 million, which accounted for 4.66 percent of the total export earnings. Exports to Italy totaled $225.22 million this July-August with knitwear accounting for $130.36 million, woven garment $75.40 million and leather, leather products and footwear with $12.06 million. Exports to Belgium amounted to $169.85 million that included knitwear $71.31 million, woven garment $66.52 million and frozen shrimp $12.73 million. Export earnings from the USA, the largest market for Bangladesh goods, registered a robust growth of 17.99 percent in July-August of the current fiscal totaling $ 1053.05 million, which was 19.56 percent of the total export earnings for the period. The Netherlands, another big export destination for Bangladesh, imported goods worth $142.28 million during the July-August period. The amount included knitwear $58.59 million, woven garment $47.86 million and frozen shrimp $17.67 million. Among the other European, Middle East, Far East and South Asian countries, exports to Russia fetched $32.56 million during the first two months of the current fiscal while that of Japan totaled $179.07 million, Singapore $32.52 million and China $106.80 million. Among the South Asian countries, exports to India amounted to $107.50 million during the July-August period that included jute and jute made goods $44.71 million and woven garment $16.80 million.
