The authorities of Fashion Craft Knitwear Ltd, located at Zamgora of Ashulia in Dhaka, decided to keep the factory shut for an indefinite period on Monday, following the workers’ demonstration. Workers said they went to the factory in the morning and saw the notice. They held a protest rally in front of the factory gate demanding immediate reopening of the organisation. The workers said they were observing work stoppage for the last two days to press home their legal demands. Their demands included 15 per cent yearly increment, earn leave, maternity leave, reemployment of the sacked workers and monthly salary within seven working days in every next month, they said. Md Musfiqur Rahim, assistant superintendent of the Ashulia Industrial Police, said additional police were deployed in the factory area to avoid any untoward situation.
