Hundreds of workers of an apparel factory took to the street and staged demonstrations Wednesday morning demanding arrears. Vehicular movement remained suspended for around 20 minutes, as apparel workers of Kron Sweater Ltd put up barricade on Arakan road. Abu Md Shahjahan Kabir, officer-in-charge of Chandgaon police station, said about 200 out of 300 workers of the factory have been appointed on the basis of ‘no work, no basis’. But authorities of the factory were not providing their dues for the last couple of months. Workers of factory yesterday came to their workplace, but they found the factory under lock and key. Finding the factory closed, the workers started staging demonstration. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation. Tofayel Ahmed Mia, deputy director of Chittagong Industrial Police, told the Dhaka Tribune that the factory authorities had agreed to pay off the arrears of workers. Owner of the factory will sit a meeting with workers to solve the problem.
