At least 25 workers of a readymade garments (RMG) factory at Banglabazar Monipur in Gazipur city were hospitalised after they fell sick for mysterious reason on Saturday. The sick workers were sent to a hospital and several local clinics for treatment. The authorities declared the factory of Youta Limited closed for the day immediately after the incident. Reshma Akter, a sewing operator at the factory, said a female worker fell sick suddenly moments after she joined work in the morning.Following this, a number of workers fell sick one after another, with symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting and saliva secretion from mouth. The factory authorities took them to local clinics and Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.Twenty workers admitted to the hospital. They include Eti, 20, Rasheda, 25, Asma, 20, Jesmin , 20, Tania, 22, Sagorika, 21, Afifa Khatun, 24, Alpona, 25, Ruksana, 32, Salma, 25, Kolpona, 28, and Nadia,32. Beauty Akter, a worker of the factory, said nine workers of the factory had also fallen sick on Thursday. Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, a physician at the emergency department of the hospital said, it is suspected that they were suffering from mass psychozenics illness. Director of Gazipur Industrial Police-II Mohammed Shoeb Ahmed said when a worker fell sick, a rumour spread that she was influenced by a ghost. Later, other workers became sick.
