Tapan Chowdhury has been re-elected as president of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) for the term 2017-18 while Mohammad Ali Khokon, Hossain Mehmud and Abdullah Al Mahmud vice-presidents.The new committee of the trade body was announced at the organisation’s 33rd annual general meeting (AGM) held at its office in the city’s Karwan Bazar Saturday. The newly elected president informed the AGM that a 20-katha land was registered recently to construct a building for the BTMA.The BTMA leaders said the government’s proposal to increase the price of gas being used in the captive power generators by 130 per cent will have negative effect on the overall textile sector. They said the recent government circular regarding import of 20 per cent raw cotton and 40 per cent machinery for textile industries via Pangaon Inland Container Terminal, and Textile Act 2016 would also create difficulty in the sector.
