Govt to modernize three jute mills

The government has taken a project for modernization and expansion of three Jute mills under the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) at a cost of Tk 1.74 billion to retain the lost glory of the golden fiber.After implementation of the project, the three mills — UMC Jute Mills in Narsingdi, Jashore Jute Industry Ltd in Noapara of Jashore and Gulfra Habib Ltd in Sitakunda of Chattogram — will create new job opportunities, reports BSS.The project has already been approved at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting.Under the project, the government will install a total of 387 environment- friendly machines in the mills to increase production at low cost. Besides, the government will develop the infrastructure of the mills through building office Bhaban, renovate water drainage system and repair machineries.The authorities concerned hoped that after modernization, the mills will increase the country’s foreign currency earnings.Talking to BSS, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam said the main objective of the project is to increase the production capacity of the mills.He said the project will help achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which will ultimately help to build a prosperous Bangladesh.
