Owners of 9 textile mills seek govt help

Leaders of Coordination Parishad of nine textile mills of the country have sought the government help for running their mills smoothly.The government handed over the ownership of the nine state-owned ailing textiles mills to the private management in 2001 which are now going through crisis.They made the appeal at a meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at his secretariat office in the city on Wednesday.At the meeting, the leaders said that the then Awami League government give the mills to newly formed boards of directors comprising employees and workers of the mills but it became vulnerable and non-profitable during the BNP-led government tenure.They also discussed the way out from this vulnerable situation and urged industries minister to implement the prime minister’s directive given during her visit to jute and textile ministry in October, 2014.During the discussion, Amir Hossain Amu said that the incumbent government is very much careful about the betterment of workers and industries.He also advised the leaders to place their demands in details so that an effective solution can be brought out, he said.Among others, industries ministry acting secretary Md Abdul Halim, additional secretary Md Enamul Haque, Bangladesh Textile and Jute Industries Sramik League ZM Kamrul Alam, New Dhaka Cotton Mills Ltd representative Abul Kashem Patwary, and representatives from other mills were also present at the meeting.
