KVIC created over 20 lakh jobs in last 5 yrs under PMEGP

India’s Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) created over 20 lakh jobs in the last five fiscals under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), according to its chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena, who claimed it has been achieving more than cent per cent success rate in executing the PMEGP since 2014-15, with the only exception of 2015-16. Prior to 2014-15, the achievement rate was never over the stipulated target, a news agency report quoted Saxena as saying. But in the last five fiscals, due to the push given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to digital India, the KVIC succeeded in surpassing the targets, he said. KVIC also initiated 2,67,226 new projects under the PMEGP in the last five fiscals, he said. While in the 2014-15 the achievement percent was 102.70 per cent, it was 118.29 and 112.17 per cent in 2016-17 and 2017-18 respectively. Earlier PMEGP was implemented off-line. But from July 1, 2016, KVIC launched its online portal. The software used for digitalization of PMEGP was also developed in-house.
