Govt working to attract foreign investment’

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday said the incumbent government is focusing its attention on trade and economic diplomacy for attracting foreign investment in the country. All the officers of the ministry have been asked to refocus on trade and investment, he said. The foreign minister was addressing a seminar titled ‘Trade and Investment Opportunities in Bangladesh’ at his ministry office in the capital. Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam, Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury and, Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Authority Managing Director Hosne Ara Begum also spoke at the programme. Dr Momen said they have already established a new division to deal and coordinate all trade and investment issues with all the relevant national authorities and ministries, including BEZA, BIDA and High-Tech Park, to closely work with them as ‘One’. “I also wrote to our ambassadors abroad to intensify their efforts in this regard as well as sought their views on how we can do better to promote trade and investment among foreigners,” said the minister. Emphasising on economic and trade diplomacy to implement the dream of building ‘Sonar Bangla’, he said the steady growth trajectory needs to make Bangladesh a developing country by 2024 and developed one by 2041.
