Ease of doing business factors more important for UK firms

The United Kingdom is keen to collaborate with India to develop a business climate that attracts British firms, according to British high commissioner to India Dominic Asquith. Ease of doing business factors are more important than the growth rate and considering a balance of interest in investments in each other’s nations becomes important, he said. On his two-day visit to Ahmedabad recently, Asquith met Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani and business leaders from the state to explore common interest areas and investment prospects, according to a report in a top English-language daily. A ‘frustrating’ delay in resolving commercial disputes in Indian courts has been of immediate concern for British companies, he said. A quicker process and system that speeds up resolution process and makes it easier for companies to achieve resolution would be mutually beneficial, he said. There are about 840 Indian companies that have invested in the United Kingdom, while about 440 UK companies have their investments in India.
