Jute goods make their mark in jute, SME fairs

The stall Green Sense Ltd displayed new products like jute-made sling ‘green elbow bag’, waist coat, Mujib Coat, shirt, coat which are made of 60-80% jute fibre and clip board made with jute fibre and jute caddies.  The company is also going to introduce new green bag priced only Tk15. “Prices of our goods range between Tk400 and Tk10,000, depending on the quality of fabrics,” said Chashi Mamun, founder chairman of Green Sense Ltd. “Jute fair is the best platform for introducing and promoting our new products nationally and internationally, even for exporting. In the fair, we received orders worth Tk6.50 lakh and hope that it will reached up to Tk50 lakh,” he added. Another stall Hand Made BD displayed jute sari, with the price ranging from Tk1,300 to Tk1,850.  “We have been producing sari from jute for the last few years, which are exclusive, unique and different. It’s demand is huge. We received order for 50 pieces of sari,” said Md Arif, sales executive of the stall. Buyers said prices of jute products were reasonable and the goods were environment-friendly. Ashrafunnesa, who came from Gulshan-2, said, “I am really amazed that our entrepreneurs can make such quality saris and coats with jute fibre. It’s really wonderful and unique. I bought two saris and am thinking to give order for some coats.” “If we can make this type of unique products with jute, our jute sector will get boost and the door of export will open further,” she added. Meanwhile, Classical Handmade Product Bd at SME fair has brought laundry baskets priced Tk950, floor mat Tk300-890, table mat Tk60-100, storage basket Tk100-1,250, bag Tk200-650, jut rugs Tk400-1,250 and satoranji Tk800-1,250 apiece. Sabrina Akther, marketing executive of stall, said they had 150 items with more than 120 designs in the fair. “The response is quite good. Every day our sale is worth Tk2,600-3,000. Last Friday, it reached up to Tk11,000,” she said. “The most important thing is that we get order after the fair. There is a huge demand for new designs abroad. We export to 11 countries, including the Netherlands, Sweden, the USA and Germany and SME is the best platform to introduce our products,” she added. Another entrepreneur Mazharul Hoque, chairman of Kazi Fashion House, who did a course on fashion design from SME Foundation, has 150 jute items of 1,000 designs in his stall. The items include hijab pin, flower, key ring, dairy key ring, dairy, money bag, purse, school bag, laptop bag, file holder which are new and different. “I established my company in 2015. Our products are exceptional and have huge demand in Australia, France and Singapore. Besides, new product hijab pin made from jute fibre is unique and some buyers in Singapore contacted with me for it,” Mazharul said. Shamim Rahman, who bought a laptop bag, said: “It looks beautiful and slander and the price is reasonable.” “Jute products are environment-friendly and attractive; I always use jute products and also urge them to make unique designs with data cable inside school bag and laptop bag,” Shamim said. There were  27 to 28 stalls of jute products in the SME fair while the Jute Fair had 105 stalls this year.
