In the latest released data by OTEXA, the USA has fallen by 43 per cent on Y-o-Y basis in its apparel imports in June ’20. The total import valued at US $ 3.97 billion as against US $ 6.94 billion in the same month of 2019. However, there is a monthly surge of 49.81 per cent in June ’20 over May ’20. In the previous year, apparel import valued at US $ 2.65 billion. This signals the gradual M-o-M recovery of the apparel retail in the USA. The performance in June is by far the best in all 3 months (April-May-June) of Q2 ’20. The total import value of apparels in April was US $ 3.41 billion. In volume-terms, the USA slumped by 34 per cent on Y-o-Y basis and the import was worth 1,500 million SME. China’s apparel shipment to the USA tumbled by 49 per cent in June ’20 over June ’19 to US $ 1.15 billion. The fall noted in volumes was 32 per cent on Y-o-Y basis to 650.43 million SME. There is a massive rebound of 59.60 per cent in the Chinese shipment to the USA in June ’20 over May ’20. Vietnam’s export to the USA stood at US $ 848.87 million in June ’20 and the monthly increase from May ’20 noted was 35.92 per cent, while yearly decline was 20 per cent from June ’19. Shipping apparels to the USA worth just US $ 168.45 million in May ’20, Bangladesh got a monthly surge of 36.62 per cent in June ’20 and clocked US $ 230.15 million. However, decline from June ’19 was 56 per cent. India continued performing worst among top shippers to the USA and was down by 63 per cent in June ’20 over June ’19 to hit US $ 113.45 million from its apparel exports. The rebounding apparel market in the USA and eased lockdown in India, however, helped it see a monthly surge of 80.13 per cent over May ’20.
