Japan continues tumbling in its garment imports; records 14% Y-o-Y drop in November ’20

The values of Japanese apparel import have tumbled by 14.12 per cent in November ’20 over November ’19, according to the latest data. The country imported 197.10 billion yen (US $ 1.90 billion) worth of apparels in the 11th month as against 229.50 billion yen (US $ 2.21 billion) in the corresponding month of 2019. As far as drop from October ’20 is concerned, Japan witnessed 17.88 per cent decline in November on monthly basis. Japan’s import valued 238.74 billion yen (US $ 2.31 billion) in October ’20. In terms of weight, Japanese apparel import declined by 5.70 per cent in November ’20 over November ’19 and 9.53 per cent as compared to October ’20. On YTD term, the values of Japanese apparel import dropped by 16.54 per cent and stood at 2,349.74 billion yen (US $ 22.80 billion) on Y-o-Y basis in Jan.-Nov. ’20 period. All major shippers to Japan noted downward trend during the 11-month period including China, India, Bangladesh and Vietnam.
