New BGMEA President vows to unite all; says recovery of garment export top priority

Faruque Hassan, who is set to become the next President of the apex garment makers’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) — Faruque Hassan led Sammilito Parishad, on 4 April, won the trade body’s biennial election, securing 24 posts of Directors out of 35 — has vowed to unite all the apparel makers to face challenges and help the sector grow further even as he promised to strengthen the global marketing to help apparel exports recover.

This was underlined in media reports, which cited Faruque, who is also the Giant Group Managing Director, in this direction.

My first job would be to revive our export earnings so that factories operate well, reportedly, maintained Faruque while underlining that this will ensure that no one loses job, and the economy runs well even as the current President of the garment manufacturers’ body, Dr. Rubana Huq, reportedly, congratulated Faruque Hassan on being elected the President while also promising to cooperate with the new BGMEA President in the coming days for the betterment of the industry.
