Govt. provides around Taka 93 crore as financial assistance to apparel workers: Reports

A sum of around Taka 93.18 crore has been provided to around 7,000 garment workers and their family members from the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s central fund.

According to reports, this information was disclosed during the recently held 14th board meeting of the central fund.

The said meeting was chaired by Begum Monnujan Sufian, the Minister for Labour and Employment in capital Dhaka even as according to reports, formed in 2016 in the light of labour law — according to the Bangladesh Labour Act, 0.03 per cent of the total export value of 100 per cent export-oriented RMG industry is deposited directly to the central fund through the central bank (Bangladesh Bank) — so far, Taka 282.42 crore has been deposited in the fund.

Further, from this fund, around Taka 1.47 crore was given amongst 736 children of the garment workers for education assistance, about Taka 83.40 crore given to the families of 4,188 workers for death-related incidents while for medical treatment Taka 6.13 crore has been given to 2,076 apparel workers.
