Bangladesh’s brassiere export to US dropped in May

While overall USA brassieres import grew by 8.46% in May ’21

Bangladesh’s brassieres products export in the United States has dropped in May. As the latest data shows that innerwear product export from Bangladesh downed by 5.72 percent in May this year compared to the previous month – April. The country is amongst the top 5 brassieres exporting destinations in the US.

Bangladesh, which declined on an M-o-M basis, increased by 46.50 percent on a yearly note to export $69.88 million brassieres products to the USA in January-May ’21 period.

Although the overall brassieres products import in the US has grown by 8.46 percent in May this year compared to the previous month – April.

According to Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) data, the US has imported $246.50 million worth of brassieres in May, which was $227.27 million in April.

Besides Bangladesh, among other top 4 brassiere exporting countries to the USA, China topped in the first 5-month period of 2021 with $365.62 million worth of brassieres export, noting 60.89 percent yearly growth.

Vietnam seized the second position with $229.10 million and an increase of 50.21 percent.

While Sri Lanka exported $111.07 million (up 43.09 percent) in its brassieres’ exports to the USA.

Indonesia witnessed a reduced import by 3.53 percent on a month-over-month basis in May.

Besides, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the readymade garment (RMG) consumption contracted greatly in 2020 and in consequence, the Y-o-Y percentage change in 2021 appears too big!

Thus, cumulatively from January to May ’21, the USA imported $1.15 billion worth of brassieres, observing a 53.77 percent increase on yearly basis.
