BGMEA emphasises on responsible supply chain, ethical sourcing: Reports

The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) recently held a virtual conference, participating in which the apex garment makers’ body BGMEA called for unified code of conduct for social audits, ethical sourcing and responsible supply chain.

According to reports, participating in a panel discussion of AAFA’s Social Responsibility Committee (SRC), BGMEA President Faruque Hassan laid emphasis and raised issues that are pertinent to responsible business practices and socially responsible supply chain even as it was the first-of-its-kind invitation from AAFA to BGMEA to participate in the event, which was attended amongst others by Deputy Under Secretary of International Labor Affairs (U.S. Department of Labor) Thea Lee; Director for Labor Affairs, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Charita Castro; and Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, U.S. Department of State Scott Busby; while Senior Vice President, Policy, AAFA Nate Herman hosted the meeting.

Faruque also, reportedly, spoke on how Bangladesh garment industry is doing in terms of maintaining health safety and exports amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
