Bangladesh’s record exports give rise to new hopes, reports claim

Notwithstanding the various fallouts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh has registered its highest-ever single-month export earnings amounting to the US $ 4.72 billion in 2021, surpassing the US $ 3.46 billion targets set for October while registering 60.37 percent year-on-year growth, thereby giving rise to new hopes even as the country celebrates its 50 years of independence.

Media reports maintained this citing data from the country’s Export Promotion Bureau or EPB, adding garments’ shipment increased by 53.27 percent to the US $ 3.56 billion year-on-year in the same month (October), raising the total export earnings to the US $ 15.74 billion in the first four months of this fiscal year.

The highest earnings, reportedly, came from knitwear shipment (the US $ 2.04 billion) even as woven items fetched the US $ 1.51 billion, while both have posted more than 52 percent growth — the July-October earnings were 22 percent higher than the US $ 12.84 billion earned in the same period last fiscal year and 13 percent higher than the set target — from the same period a year ago.
