Sweden interested to tie up with Bangladesh over RMG sector renewable energy

Swedish are interested to tie partnership with the Bangladeshi readymade garment sector in renewable energy to promote the sustainable fashion platform in Bangladesh, said a press release.

They expressed the interest at the first policy dialogue on ‘Sustainable Fashion Platform’ arranged by the Sweden Embassy in Bangladesh, together with the Swedish brands H&M, IKEA, and Lindex, along with the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sweden-Bangladesh Business Council which launched on Wednesday.

The aim of the dialogue was scaling up the Sweden-Bangladesh partnership in renewable energy within the RMG sector which was hosted by Swedish ambassador to Bangladesh Alexandra Berg von Linde.

Prime minister’s power, energy and mineral resources affairs adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury was chief guest at the event.

Swedish foreign trade and international development cooperation minister Johan Forssell made digital introductory remarks at the event.

With the celebration of 50 years of bilateral relations between Sweden and Bangladesh as a backdrop, the Swedish minister said, ‘Sweden wants to continue our common journey ahead. Sustainability will be an important part of our future bilateral ties and we look forward to enhancing our partnership within the green transition.’

Alexandra Berg von Linde said, ‘Sweden sees potential for cooperation on sustainability within the RMG sector.’

She also underlined that Swedish green tech companies have a lot to offer in the wider domain of sustainability, both when it comes to services and solutions.

Power, energy and mineral resources ministry’s Power Division secretary Md Habibur Rahman, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority chairperson Munira Sultana, and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association president Faruque Hassan participated the event as special guests.

European Union ambassador Charles Whiteley, ambassador of Bangladesh to Sweden Mehdi Hasan, UNDP resident representative Stefan Liller and NCCI president Tahrin Aman delivered statements at the event.
