Workers of a readymade garment (RMG) factory in Dhaka’s Savar staged a demonstration against the dismissal of their jobs without any notice.
The workers of Anlima Textile Limited staged the demonstration on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway on Tuesday morning.
Later, officers from Industrial Police-1 and Savar Model police station rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control at around 2:30pm.
According to the agitating workers, the factory authorities have been dismissing the workers illegally at different times and were not paying money to the dismissed workers.
The workers talked to the factory about the matter and alleged that he behaved poorly with them.
They told this correspondent that one of their colleagues was laid off without any notice on Monday. When they protested the matter and went to talk to the General Manager (GM) Golam Kibria of the factory, he misbehaved with them.
Later, the workers started protesting in front of the factory.
A worker, requesting anonymity, said the workers protested a few days ago when hundreds of workers were fired at different times. At that time, the owners said that no more workers would be fired.
Assistant Vice President (HR & Admin) of the factory Md Qayyum said many people have quit their jobs due to lack of work in the factories. “No one was unfairly fired. According to the rules, a worker was fired yesterday (Monday) for destroying clothes.”
ABM Rashidul Bari, assistant superintendent of police of Industrial Police-1, said the factory owners assured the workers of fulfilling their legitimate demands after discussions with them.
“After the assurance at noon, the workers calmed down. The factory authorities claim that the GM was beaten up by the workers. The workers say the GM beat them. However, no injury marks were seen on anyone’s body,” he added. News Sources : dhakatribune
