BGMEA seeks Indonesia’s cooperation to boost garment exports

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has sought Indonesia’s cooperation to increase garment exports.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan spoke about this cooperation during a courtesy meeting with Indonesian Ambassador Heru Hartanto Subolo on February 6.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation and enhance bilateral trade relations between the two countries with special emphasis on the apparel and textile sector.

Discussions also included various bilateral trade-related issues. Both sides expressed interest in identifying new ways to work together to fully seize mutual trade and investment opportunities.

BGMEA President said that Bangladesh has increased its focus on apparel diversification, especially the production of high-value garments using man-made fibers. Bangladesh can also import man-made fiber from Indonesia.

Calling upon the ambassador, he said, encourage Indonesian businessmen to invest in the man-made textile sector in Bangladesh, emphasizing the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships. He expressed the industry’s interest in increasing garment exports to the Indonesian market and sought the ambassador’s cooperation in this regard.

Faruque Hassan also requested the ambassador to assist in establishing collaboration between BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) and the Indonesian Fashion Institute. It aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of BUFT students in fashion design, product development, technology and other relevant fields.
