The government has decided to introduce ‘Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Good Practice Award’ for the apparel industries from this year.The decision was taken at a meeting on Sunday held at the ministry here with State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haq in the chair, said an official release, reports BSS. For the first time, 10 apparel factories will get the awards this year on the occasion of the occupational safety and health day.President M Abdul Hamid will hand over the awards at a function on April 28.Ten apparel factories– each of which has 5000 workers and also a BGMEA member and each BKMEA member factory which has 2000 workers-will be selected for the awards.The concerned factories will have to apply for the award in a prescribed form. Labour and Employment Secretary Afroza Khan, Inspector General of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment M Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan, Additional Secretary Ashraf Shamim, BGMEA director Saifuddin Ahmed and Secretary General of Bangladesh Employers Federation M Faruque Ahmed, among others, were present.
