The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) recently signed an agreement with Chinese firm Pink Mango C&D to set up a garment factory in Kigali Special Economic zone to cater to the domestic as well as export markets. The latter is expected to provide 7,500 jobs to Rwandans by the fifth year and generate cumulative export earnings of $20 million over five years. Pink Mango C&D is expected to build capacity and skills of 500 local garment cooperative workers, who will also benefit from some of their supply contracts through an outsourcing model, according to an RDB press release.Witt-Gruppe, part of the Otto group, a leading specialist chain in fashion and garments retail trade in Europe, will source products from the new factory. Chinese textile company Jiangyin BaoRui Textile had some time back signed a deal to produce fabrics and apparel in Rwanda through a local partner, Apparel Manufacturing Group (AMG).
