Cotton warehouse gutted in Tongi

A cotton warehouse was gutted in Mill Gate area of Tongi under Gazipur city yesterday morning. Tongi fire service sources said the fire originated at a tin-shaded cotton warehouse around 8am in the area and it immediately engulfed the whole godown. Huge amounts of cotton wastage (jhut) were gutted. But the reason behind the incident could not be known immediately. On information, two units of Tongi fire station rushed to the spot and doused the flame after an hour of frantic efforts. The losses of the fire incident could not be estimated immediately. Meanwhile, station officer of Kaliakoir fire station Apurba Ball said a stationary shop, owned by one Hashem Ali, was gutted in Palli Bidyut area of the upazila early yesterday. The fire originated from an electric short circuit in the shop. Valuables of the shop were burnt to ashes in the fire. On information, two units of Kaliakoir fire station rushed to the spot and doused the flame.
