Cambodia Govt rejects factory closure rumours

Cambodia’s Labour Ministry has denied rumours that factories would be closed in December and has called for the arrest of the “mastermind” for spreading the rumour, Cambodian newspapers have reported. The mysterious rumour has sown confusion across the Kingdom’s garment and footwear industry, which is country’s largest export earner and employs over 700,000 people. “This information caused workers and employers in the sector to be worried. The Ministry of Labour rejects this information and wants to clarify to workers, employers, and the public that aside from official public paid holidays, December does not have any other holidays,” the Labour Ministry said in a statement. The statement urged all workers to keep working as usual, and also called on the public to “report any information to authorities and police that can be used to identify and arrest the mastermind who created this rumour in order to take action through the law”.
