Wal-Mart’s market chief to retire

Wal-Mart Stores Inc says its chief marketing officer is retiring, and it’s tapping into the talent of a former Target executive as a consultant. The world’s largest retailer said Thursday Stephen Quinn will be leaving, effective January 31, 2016. Quinn had joined Wal-Mart in 2005 as a senior vice-president of marketing and was named to his current position in 2007. Wal-Mart says it’s bringing on Michael Francis as a consultant. Francis is known for his nearly 30-year career at Target, where he helped create the discounter’s cheap-chic image. After stints at Gap and JC Penney, Francis is now winding down his job as chief global brand officer at DreamWorks. He plans to step down later this month. The move comes as Wal-Mart aims to appeal to higher-income shoppers.
